PARENT NOTES
THEORY postponed one week: To start Tuesday November 8th.
Most parents want their class / lesson day for Theory. SO we will switch to Week 2 to be able to accommodate as many as possible on the same day as class.
SIGN UP will be completed  Tuesday Nov 1st for additional classes being made available. You should be able to find a suitable time.
ROSE CONCERT Nov.3 Tickets arrive Tuesday Nov 1st.

We have requested Friday evening December 9th arrival 7pm. Concert 7:30 to 8:15. 
2. ADVANCED CLASS Rose Theatre- Intermission Performance Sat. Dec 3rd arrival 7pm
Performing students receive free tickets to the Rose O. performance. Parents may wish to attend the Rose Orchestra concert at our special low ticket prices. Always a very special celebration concert!

TERM ENDING before WINTER BREAK: Last classes will be held DEC 20 and DEC 21.
We resume classes Tuesday JAN. 10th

HOMEWORK
               How to have fun playing your instrument : practice a little every day!
 Set the same practice time every day and don't miss it- you'll see how much easier                                                                   your playing becomes!

BEGINNERS:
PRACTICE THE FOLLOWING EVERY DAY- at least FOUR DAYS 

Remember to check for a perfect bow hold every time you pick up your instrument!  
Bow exercises: 1."elevator"- for flexible wrist :Place Coin/eraser- flat top of  hand . V
2. "Windshield wiper"  3 "Monkey crawl".
Review: Pizzicato- plucking the string - string cycle- pluck four notes on each string high to low and back

BOWING -Keep bow hair flat and tilt the wood slightly :
Cellos and Bass: wood (bow stick) tilts towards you s  lightly. Let gravity pull bow down into string for a good solid sound
Violins and Violas: wood (bow stick) tilts away from you lightly. Let gravity pull bow down into string for a good solid sound.

STRING CYCLE:Lift the bow over your lowest string. Drop hair onto string and let arm weight relax onto your hand. Feel the tug .Pull four short strokes in the middle of the bow on each string lowest to the highest string and back to the lowest.
                                                  

INTERMEDIATES

PARENT NOTES

HOMEWORK IS FOUND BELOW:  PRACTICE CHARTS SHOULD REFLECT THE ASSIGNED WORK AND SHOULD BE BROUGHT TO CLASS EVERY WEEK

All students in Advanced and Intermediate classes should now be placed in a private lesson. Please note that these lessons take place alternate weeks beginning this Tuesday. October 18th. Ms Yoshi's students are in groups: #Group1, beginning the 18th, and Group 2 beginning the 25th .Please make sure you are clear about which group you are in.
A calendar which includes dates, teachers' contact numbers will be available for pick up at Yogita's table next week.

THEORY will begin November 1st  for Advanced and Intermediates
We are arranging to have two volunteers (former MATT students) to work on Theory with students . Students will join in to a group of up to six students, before or after their private lesson in the MATT office.  All students will need a Theory workbook and a pencil. Intermediates will receive the  All for Strings Theory Workbook at a cost of $5.00 Advanced students who need a new Theory book ,please order it from Yogita. You will be able to sign up for your Theory class next week at Yogita's table.

ATTENDANCE REMINDER:
All students should check in for attendance with Yogita when they arrive

INVENTORY CHECK:
Advanced and Intermediates please give Yogita your instrument # and SR RS # this week when you check in for attendance.

Single concert tickets cost: $20 per adult and $10 for up to four children inclusive. 
Sign up Tuesday and pay in advance cash or check to the Rose Orchestra. Orders and payment are due no later than Wed October 25th. You will receive your tickets Nov 1st

3 "  ROSE and ROSEBUD CONCERT SERIES DATES: Nov 5, Feb 11 & April 29  
Because it is SO important for young music students to experience live concerts, all MATT students MUST attend at least one of these to receive the year end certificate. Your child will be VERY inspired to see four former or current MATT colleagues on stage this year with this talented young orchestra.

THIS WEEK'S HOMEWORK

BEGINNERS: 

Practice charts to be filled in for each day of practice- check each exercise you do for each day . Bring your practice chart with you to class every week.YOU NEED TO PRACTICE AT LEAST FOUR DAYS BEFORE NEXT CLASS.

What to practice? follow the hints at top of first 3 columns:
 RH- BOW HOLD- use bunny start position and picture to repeat 5 times the correct right hand position 
LH correct left hand position(cellos not learned yet)  
Bow exercises: 1."elevator"- for flexible wrist :Place Coin/eraser- flat top of  hand . Violin/viola: Slowly move hand up to eyes and back to tummy singing Twinkle without dropping coin. Cello/bass- coin n top of hand Keep fingers facing forward and hand flat while moving hand to right and left.
2. Windshield wiper Correct bow hold tip up - holding correct position, turn tip to right -hair up, then across to left with hair facing floor
3 Monkey crawl. Bow Tip up -using tips of fingers crawl up to top of bow , then use "inch worm" style movt to return to frog

NAME YOUR STRINGS: Bass: start with lowest thickest string:E -count up 4 (including E)to name next string till all 4 are named
Cello/viola: start with your lowest C -count 5 (including C )up to next string till all 4 are named
Violin: Start with lowest thickest: G count 5(including G) up till next string and continue till all 4 are named.

INTERMEDIATES

Practice Charts to be filled in and brought to class every week
Practice at least FIVE days a week.

ADVANCED
CHARTS TO BE BROUGHT TO CLASS- PRACTICE  5 DAYS AT LEAST 30 MIN PER DAy!

1. D scale- work to perfect your tuning and shifting
2. Harvest Home: continue to letter Q VIOLAS PLEASE LEARN the solo part at letter S!
CELLOS -for your first private lesson, ask your teacher to work on the next movement after Harvest Home "FIRESIDE " -it's a fabulous CELLO SOLO!
3, CANON: VIOLAS: Practice pizz notes -press LH hard and pull strongly for a ringing sound NB : for your first lesson ask your teacher to help you play these pizz. notes well! 
Cellos: in TUNE notes- smooth and beautiful tuning.\
Violins: learn notes up to bar 18
4.Canadian Ballad: Learn up to bar 13.
