Hi Everyone!
INSTRUMENT UPDATE:
 Most are ready and can be returned to you anytime. Ryan's is to be done in August. Raechel's, Elizabeth's and Zoe's may take till the end of next week. Assuming you will want to pick up all  family instruments at once,we will be in touch when each is ready, to arrange pick-up. Call Andrea if you have any requests or questions.

MATT STUDENTS-
          YOU WERE A HIT TUESDAY!
I was so pleased that our concert pulled off so well. Comments were VERY positive from the audience-they LOVE what you are doing. Many thanks also for your excellent “stage moves” –quietly and timely-impressive!
We have now been invited to play City Hall! AND a Christmas concert!
And a special thank you to Rhys Wark for being our first ever drummer!
To parents, teachers, Frances, Claudia, Akilah, Kapil and Syed, many thanks for all your help yesterday. As we grow, it becomes more important that we all pull together, and I am SO grateful that so many of you are digging in and just “Doing it", OFFERING HELP IN MANY WAYS! 
We’ll cap it all off with the Year-end pool party Tuesday 4:30 till 6:30pm. Please check e-mail for address. ALL Beginners and Advanced are to bring MATT instruments with you for labelling and maintenance check.

CONCERT/REHEARSAL PLANNING for TUESDAY JUNE 16TH 

PARENTS WHO HAVE COLLAPSIBLE CHAIRS PLEASE BRING THEM IN and set up for children in right front corner as you enter. We need about 24 total. I will bring 8. Thanks so much. Let Akilah know how many you can bring

BEFORE ARRIVING: 1. Practice all your pieces carefully --so you can HAVE FUN playing the concert!
                                    2. Have their music in order as shown in concert program below
                                    3. Have your name taped to your music stand.
CONCERT ATTIRE: MATT t-shirt with dress pants or skirts (no blue jeans if possible please) dress shoes  if you have any.
Arrival time for ALL STUDENTS 3:45pm Please read carefully, and help make this work smoothly .

REHEARSAL PLAN:
1.ALL students immediately upon arrival place all cases, coats, unneeded items neatly  in kitchen. Take music, stand and instrument into main room. Be as quiet as you can –we don’t have much time to rehearse!
2. Have your instrument tuned by one of the teachers
3. Advanced students place music stand at your desk-it will stay there throughout the concert, used by whoever sits in that chair during the performance.
4. Advanced students .With instrument and music, sit down in performance chairs seating for start of rehearsal: Brandenburg Concerto.
5. Beginning class: Sit down, with your instrument carefully in your hands, in the front row of students chairs. While playing Twinkles and Lightly Row, watch and copy bowing and fingers of leader.
5:  Intermediate students: if there isn’t one there already, set up your music stand in your spot, -keep it with you otherwise.  Sit down in students seating chairs. Row 2 and 3

SIT  QUIETLY  TILL  CALLED  FOR  REHEARSAL  OF  YOUR  PIECES

SPECIAL NOTICE TO PARENTS OF INTERMEDIATE STUDENTS.
Immediately after the refreshments at END of CONCERT, please take your child’s instrument to the “Jefferson van” ,-a volunteer will be there to receive them. They will be labelled and checked for needed repairs andyou can  pick them  up at the party June 23rd.

SPECIAL NOTICE TO PARENTS OF ADVANCED  AND BEGINNING  STUDENTS:
Any instruments owned by MATT will be collected at the PARTY June 23 and returned within a week if no major repairs are required. Pick up will be arranged at Towers for June 30th at 5pm..

PARENTS' NOTICE BOARD

THIS WEEK”S CLASS ADJUSTMENT FOR CONCERT PREPARATIONS:
All students are asked to attend a VIVA la VIDA rehearsal Tuesday 4 to 4:15 pm.if possible.
This is the GRAND FINALE of the program June 16th.

CONCERT JUNE 16: REMINDER
All students are to attend at 3:45 for final dress rehearsal before the concert. Guests will be allowed in at 4:45.

CONCERT DRESS:
MATT t-shirts with black or white or colorful pants/skirt. Although designer blue jeans are the right color, (and sometimes very expensive), we would prefer a more “dressy” look if possible please.

Collapsible Chairs from home for Concert
 Please let Akilah and Claudia know if you can bring extra collapsible chairs for students to sit in during concert. We hope this means parents and guests can all be seated during the concert.

Most Parent interviews are completed for Advanced and Intermediate students
For Beginners and others who have lessons on Tuesdays: We can meet on Wednesdays and some Thursdays/Mondays for brief discussion re:your child’s progress. Bring your suggestions and ideas for MATT improvements. We are listening! Please see Akilah/Claudia for times.

YEAR END POOL PARTY at Ms Currie’s home. All are welcome to swim with their own parent supervision
Thank you to the parents who have offered to help with arranging for FREE PIZZA for the year end party.
Please bring your MATT instrument with you to the pool party. All our instruments will be permanently numbered , checked for necessary repairs and returned within a week.

Special tips and reminders for practice:
BEGINNERS

VIVA la VIDA : Use our repeated rhythm in 2 bar segments, watching to change notes in the music as required. The notes move up one or down one, on either the D or G string.

3. Twinkles: (A)  Long Bows, line 1 repeated MYA will lead while Ms C plays the obligato
                    (B)  I STOP and YOU STOP  eg “D D rest D, A A rest A,  no line 1 repeat

4. Lightly Row- short short long. etc.: half bows for short and whole bows for long:    


INTERMEDIATES

1.     SKATERS WALTZ Work on quiet eighth notes and smooth melodies
2.     SAHARA CROSSING –Review and make sure you’ve GOT IT!: especially :violin/viola bars19 to 25 and cellos bars 41 to 51

3. VIVA la VIDA  Practice through the whole piece HAVE FUN WITH IT! Listen to it on YOU tube  Use correct up and down bows. for your rhythm on open strings  AT  FROG of bow. 

4.  POMP and CIRCUMSTANCE : make it MAESTOSO- MAJESTIC!

ADVANCED
1.     SONATA by SCARLATTI: Kalpi’s solo Let’s aim for PERFECT BALANCE so you can hear the solo at all times. Practice each eighth note bars separately, with perfect tuning and smooth sound.

       2.  VIVA LA VIDA : practice our ENDING-violins and violas in the air!

3.  Bach AIR- aim for very smooth  eighth notes

       4.  BACH BRANDENBURG- ENERGY!

       5.  MAC PHERSON.- ENJOY!

        6. NEW TRIO by Mya, Balaaj and Zoe to be performed for class

                    PRACTICE WELL SO YOU CAN SHOW WHAT YOU CAN DO AT THE CONCERT!!!
