"START UPS" Nov 7th : ENSEMBLE PROGRAM and Week 1 THEORY CLASSES

PARENT NOTES 

1. Week 1 THEORY CLASSES START for Intermediate and Advanced students Tuesday Nov 7th in the LUNCH ROOM Arrive 5 min. early. Attendance will be taken each class.
New Theory students must purchase from Yogita - All For Strings Theory Workbook 1, cost $8.00. Please bring EXACT change, or bring $10 in bills and donate $2 to MATT! 


2. WELCOME TO OUR NEW ENSEMBLES! You start this Tuesday Nov 7th.
MATT is introducing a new optional, by invitation, ENSEMBLE program, to enhance the progress of our most dedicated students. They will receive additional instruction, and with practice ,will gain independence as young musicians, working together to make music!                  There is a moderate fee for this program, but it is 66% subsidized  by MATT.

4  to 4:30 pm :   TRIO – Sofija Paz Popovic, Rachael Ragbirsingh, and Jasjeet  Sidhu-
4:30 - 5 pm: TRIO - Nathan and Jordan Merisanu, Sofia Merrick 
5 - 5:30 pm  QUARTET: - Elizabeth Lawson, Leila Merrick, Mya Norman, Leah Tewari  
5:30 - 6 pm  DUET: - Aaron Merisanu, Rashad Merrick

1. Saturday November 25INTERMEDIATE STRINGS and CHORAL STUDENTS :
 10:00 am arrival at Charolais Blvd Door- 11 am Performance
Wear MATT t-shirts, dress shoes, pants/skirt.

 INT. STRINGS Play: Santa Claus is Coming to Town , Jingle Bells , Doh a Deer
  Concert Song, Beethoven 9th, Pizzicato Magic!

2. Saturday Dec 2: 7:00 pm arrival
ADVANCED STRINGS: ROSE ORCHESTRA INTERMISSION CONCERT-
Dress shirts from last year- new Advanced students must be fitted for this special attire.

3 .Friday December 8: 
ALL MATT STUDENTS play : ANNUAL SHOPPERS WORLD MALL CONCERT 7:30 pm
ARRIVAL TIMES: at CHAROLAIS BLVD DOOR:

HOMEWORK THIS WEEK

BEGINNERS

                     NB: BRING COMPLETED PRACTICE CHARTS TO CLASS -
                                  requirement :4  practice sessions per week.
1. REVIEW DAILY :Repeat 3 to 5 times each :
               a). Review: correct bow grip, sitting position, instrument hold. 
               b). Music alphabet: abcdefg  repeat abcdefg etc
               c). Name your strings

2. NEW Theory:  "Run pony" rhythm: half note, quarter, quarter/ on each string

3.   Review- "open string cycle"- 4 quarters on each string    Play 4 short bows on each string from low to high,  then from high to low.  Remember  that your elbow will change levels for each string

4.NEW: Play Run Pony on each string


5. Review correct placement of first finger- Review HOW to find your first finger spot correctly
Then  PLAY " 0-1 string cycle "

INTERMEDIATES

1. NEW SONG for November 25th: Jingle Bells- pizzicato 
             Write in note names 

2. "Here Comes  Santa Claus" .
  (a) Practice playing to the end 
  (b) Write in notes names for ALL notes of the song.
 2,AFStrings book: Review ALL of CONCERT SONG 
 3.AFStrings #79 learn both parts!
                                             
4.. Pizzicato Magic   REVIEW: up to bar 22 to 28. 
5. Beethoven's Ninth - Practice- bar 21 to the end  
                                  Violas and cellos- learn your melody bar 13 &14

                      
ADVANCED CLASS

 ***BRING COMPLETED PRACTICE CHARTS TO CLASS 5 sessions per week

1. Scale of D 2 octaves. Be ready to create a rhythm for the scale- have your rhythm ready!  Use 8th notes, quarter notes, half notes- even 16ths!

3. D scale NEW PIECE: Ave Verum corpus : learn to bar 21 c#'s in tune!

4. G scale: Eleanor Rigby:: Work on your Special Bars. up to bar 14.
                               Practice Spiccato bowing for short notes


5. D scale Jingle Bells Hoedown- Review all to bar 39
                            : Bars 40 to 49- violin 1- learn in groups of 4 notes, then 8 etc.
                                                    others: strong pizz- play only top notes.
                                                                       
                                           
                Mark in notes and finger numbers with pencil where needed.                              
   
6. D scale Andante Cantabile: REVIEW all work on your hard bars each day with .Careful work on counting and accidentals (added sharps) to bar 42-  there are lots of repeated parts. Cellos special "Shifting spot: " 


7. G scale Blue Tango:  Practice the whole piece! Play with PASSION!

THINK about what exactly needs correction- you are developing your "science brain" 
as you discover  and solve your music problems!
 THIS KIND OF CONCENTRATION IN PRACTICE PAYS  OFF WITH SUCCESS !
