Tuesday May 29: FINALE SHOWCASE CONCERT 6 to 7:15pm
 at Holland Christian Homes- Heritage Hall,7900 McLaughlin Rd South 
                                        
ALL students arrive at 4:15 pm FULL REHEARSAL 4:30 to 5:45 pm
Wear MATT t-shirts, dress pants/shoes
Bring your instrument, stand , concert music

PARENTS: Please bring refreshments. We serve all who perform and attend, including residents of HCH .- to be co-organized by two parents. Mid -May we will post a sign up sheet in class. Sign up in class to bring your choice : beverage/ snack / fruit. It is always a feast of  wonderful variety!

PARENT NOTES 
DID YOU KNOW? According to the examination of 232 brain scans of children aged six to 18, lead by Professor James Hudziak, practising a musical instrument positively influences developments in the brain which help children to cope with emotions, improve attentiveness and sharpen executive functions. 

         Of course you did- your children are proving it- IF they practice lots!!

 1. April 9 to 13 WEEK 2- PRIVATE LESSONS/THEORY ARE ON AS USUAL THIS  WEEK 

2. APRIL 10 TUESDAY  INTERMEDIATES & BEGINNERS - CLASSES CANCELLED -
                due to special MATT Sponsor recognition event at that time
                             

3. ADVANCED STUDENTS: Tuesday APRIL 10: Event 5-7pm  "Lighting Lives with Music"

       Advanced Class Parents are invited to come and be a guest at the RECEPTION!

DRESS: Strings WEAR Dress shirts/blouses
              Choral students WEAR MATT t-shirts and "dress up" shoes pants /skirt
BRING: Music folder with one performance piece in it, music stands, instruments
        
TIMING
 5:30- arrival at Towers :  warm up/tune in Lunch Room.
                                       Choral students WEAR MATT t-shirts and dress up go to MATT office 
 5:50: ALL students Move to Party room with stands and instruments 
 6 pm: Strings Perform " Harry Potter"-  remain in place till end of formalities
           Chorus sings. When Children Join Hands and Sing
 ALL  remain in performance location till end of formalities
 6:15 approx. :STAY till formalities end- take stands and instruments back to Lunch room -
            You may leave then, or stay till 6:30.   
          Then you and you parents are invited to stay and enjoy!
       

4. PLAYATHON II     Saturday May 5- FUNDRAISER for MATT: 

Each MATT family Teacher Board member and and Staff member is requested to raise $100- by asking your teachers, friends family for pledges. More details  and Pledge sheets will be handed out next week in classes.


HOW does PLAYATHON work on Saturday May 5 ?
  •  Come to Shoppers World South Side Court 15 min before your scheduled time (below)
  •  ALL MATT Students play their class/concert materials for MALL audience at South Side Court in Shoppers World Mall. (same location as last year)
  • Set up your music stands and folders as in class.
  • Wear MATT t-shirts and casual clothes.
 TENTATIVE PLAYATHON SCHEDULE:      

                      Beginners play at 11 to 11:30 am
                      Intermediate Ensembles: 11:30 to 12 am
                      Intermediates: Play 12 - 1 pm
                      Choir : 1 to 1:30
                      Guest performers/ Advanced  Ensemble: 1:30 -2pm
                      Advanced Class: 2 to 3 pm
                      Northern Lights String Quartet: 3 to to 4 pm
        

  5.  ENSEMBLES      
To be considered to play in May concert your ensemble MUST perform for class within the next 2 weeks. Only Jasjeet's ensemble  has performed so far.
                              3. Cecilia has the dates for each ensemble to perform in class.starting April 17, and 24th and May 1st!

BEGINNERS

1. Long, Long Ago: Review ALL LINES with repeated sections

2. D Scale - review with LONG bows- half notes
3.  G scale. Same fingers starting on G string : g a b c d e f# g, down f# e d c b a g

4. READING MUSIC: Strictly Strings. Page 17. work on all lines of P 17- 2 lines every day. Keep Eyes on the notes! NEXT week we add more notes KEEP YOUR EYES on the NOTES!

5. NEW SONG for MAY CONCERT: Scarborough Fair : 
                                                NEW: bars 8 to 15. Write in note names
                                                Review intro section to Bar 8. Learn to play this section well

6. REVIEW TWINKLES: Pick a different rhythm every day

INTERMEDIATES
Two MATTHEW'S-cello/bass section leaders 

1. HANDEL WATER MUSIC: Warm up:  SCALE OF D
                                 NEW:bar 31 to 46. BE SURE to have note names written in if needed                                    Learn to play this section  well!
                                    Review to bar 13, with repeats. Count eighth notes correctly- 1&2&3&4&

2. CREPUSCULE: Warm up Scale of G 
                             Review from beginning to bar 47- find YOUR melody parts
                             NEW section: Work ahead after bar 47 writing in note names if needed.   

3. HAPPY BLUES: Scale of D  Review the ending !
                               Keep learning perfect timings and correct notes.


ADVANCED
   


1 HARRY POTTER: PRIORITY for April 10 performance. 
                                         Start VERY softly- keep the tempos!
                            STUDY correct bowings throughout. Work on effective dynamics
VIOLAS: SOLO- Learn it well with your teacher. Learn to play it with style and comfort!
                                     
3. NEW BEAUTY and the BEAST: We will play bars 1-to 69 only
NEW Theme 2: bar 42 to 50. Learn your melodies- especially CELLOS!
  Violin 1- learn shifting sections with correct fingerings bars 17 and 18
 Please work at home and with teacher on bars 1 to 10. We will have teachers playing this with us.
VIOLA SOLO -with cellos- Bar 49 coming next week- have a look- prepare it well. 
CELLOS SOLO: bar 34. and barAsk private teacher for  good fingerings Practice every day!!! Susan will play this with you- but you must learn it. 

4SUITE FOR STRINGS.  Sarabande. 

5. Ave Verum - Continue working on perfect high C# and G#
                        Practice the smooth , soft sound with full bows
