EXCITING NEWS!

ADVANCED STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO PLAY IN THE ROSE THEATRE FOYER, 

DURING ROSE ORCHESTRA CONCERT INTERMISSION 

SAT DEC 5, 7 PM till about 9:15

 Please sign up wth Akilah if you are able to perform that evening!

INTERMEDIATE CLASS:

REQUEST: TWO classes time switch with ADVANCED?

It would be helpful if we could switch times with ADVANCED CLASS 

for the last two weeks before our ROSE PERFORMANCE: that is 

November 24th  and December 1st classes

 INT at 6 pm ADV at 5 pm(Arrive 15 min ahead)

IF BOTH ADVANCED and INTERMEDIATES can do the other time slot those weeks, we will go ahead.

Parents, would you kindly check your calendars and see.
ALL ADVANCED STUDENTS MUST ATTEND THESE 5pm CLASSES 

or WE WILL NOT SWITCH! I will ask during class this week and see if it will work.

FOR ALL STUDENTS
For our Christmas evening Concert at Shoppers World  and ALL our concerts,

ALL of us  play and ALL of us need MATT t-shirts.

Please give your size to Akilah.

They will cost $10.00, please submit payment with the order.

is not yet confirmed, 

 but we are hoping for DEC 10 or 11th  6:30 pm evening. 

Please reserve these dateS till  know the final one.

HOMEWORK 

BEGINNERS

 MARK YOUR PRACTICE CHART SESSION EACH DAY WITH CHECK MARKS.

During tuning time before class, show chart to your teacher- if you have 4 days practice marked you may choose a sticker for your chart! 

EACH DAY REVIEW THE FOLLOWING:

1. Sitting position- 
2.PRACTICE the bow hold 5 times before holding your instrument

3. Bow exercises: Windshield wiper, Monkey crawl up and down, Twinkle with coin.

4. Instrument hold. Take the time to practice the correct hold position 5 times, before putting the bow on the string.

5.Placing bow on strings LIFT arm above your string, drop weight of arm onto string, feel it "settle into" the string. 

6. String Cycle: Drop bow onto your lowest (thickest) string. Pull four short strokes, then move to next string and repeat bow strokes. 

  7. 0-1 String Cycle: On each string, as above play 0-1 then go to next string. Listen for correct "doh-re: sound. Check correct round finger position

8. TWINKLE - line 1, 2 and 3. ALWAYS PLAY with correct position !

Those who wish TO AUDITION  for  ADVANCED CLASS 
MAY MAKE AN APPOINTMENT TO DO SO.
You will be expected to play 3 of the trickiest selections from AFS  Book 1, from the last 10 pages, correctly with correct tuning and rhythms.
TWO are Auditioning next week!

BRING DETAILED PRACTICE CHARTS to class
PRACTICE 5 DAYS EACH WEEK

1. THIS WEEK all students are required to: 
Review the hard parts from Ex 82 to 92.
THEN
 READ AND LEARN ALL EXERCISES IN THE BOOK, FROM #92 to 102    

 2.  CONTINUE : MAMBO from the CONGO- bars 1-8. Count carefully.

3. Review: MOUNTAIN WILLIAM- long bows. 

REMEMBER:

 CLASS TIME EXTRA HELP Those who are not yet able to easily read the assigned AFS material, will be receiving special help sessions for part of the class, while others move forward with new material.

Learn notes and rhythms for all new pieces: Winter Fantasy, A Christmas Lullaby, 

                                                                   Pie Jesu, and Variant on an Old English Carol

Continue refining the other pieces below:

1. BRING YOUR SCALE SHEET, with  correct fingerings marked in by your teacher, to class. Be ready to play all of these scales well in class, with shifting as required.

2. Mozart Quartet 2 : PRACTICE SPICCATO (BOUNCED BOW) on your D scale
 NEW: BAR 17 to the end. AIM FOR a LIGHT CLEAR SOUND a la MOZART!

3. BROTHER JAMES AIR:   Play Scale of C+
                               PRACTICE separately ALL EIGHTH NOTE BARS counting 1+2+3+

4. LONDONDERRY AIR: Scale of F Major.     Listen on YOUTUBE !!

NEW: Learn  ALL!

       ALL- write in counting under eighth note parts: mark in 1+2+3+4+ every bar. 

5. LA PALOMA: Play scale of G Major Learn to Bar 64!  Continue working on MELODY PARTS. "Woodshed" (DRILL repeatedly) in groups of 4 notes , 16th notes sections, till very clear and perfect. IT"S GETTING BETTER!

BILLY TELL:  (G Major) Learn  ALL- practice 16th note passages, in small groups, then eighths, etc to gallop speed!  ALMOST THERE!
