PRIVATE LESSONS- For Inter. and Adv, Students:

  •      NO Private lessons next week, Oct.8-20(Classes continue)
  •      WEEK 2 starts Oct. 15
  •      To avoid missed lessons and extra fees, review and follow Absence policy


2.ROSE and ROSEBUD ORCHESTRA CONCERTS:

CONCERT # 1.Sat Oct 27, 7:30 pm Rose Theatre  with Rosebuds:
                                                     "Haunting Melodies"
including Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter , Dance Macabre, Night on Bald Mountain-                                                                         ........you can't go wrong!!

Place your order by next Thursday Oct.11. Check payable to "The Rose Orchestra"
TICKET PRICES: for each concert :
Adult $20. each plus up to 4 children @$10 ! Total for 1 adult and children- $30
Series of 3 Rose with Rosebuds Concerts : 1 adult, up to 4 kids: $70

PRACTICE CHARTS will be checked in all classes next week, 
to help you organize your home review

BEGINNERS:
four practice days per week

           1. Review: how to sit/stand correctly to play
                             how to adjust your bow grip (bunny hops onto the bow)
               BOW GAMES: Coin/eraser on palm _sing twinkle
                                        Windshield wiper
                                                        Monkey crawl
               Music alphabet, (A TO G, REPEAT)
               Name your strings

               NEW THIS WEEK! Playing some notes on your strings
               STEPS: 1.with your best bow grip, lift the bow over the strings, 
                             2. touch middle of bow hair to one string,
                             3. let your arm weight "Drop down" onto string, hear a "crunch"
                             4. pull one short stroke down and then up again

TIPS for best sound:
 a) bow sits half way between bridge and fingerboard
 b) bow moves parallel to string,
 c) hair is flat on string -violin: lean wood away from nose, 
                                    - cello and bass lean stick upwards
  d) right elbow and shoulder are relaxed

NEW: Play four short strokes on each string- lowest to highest or highest to lowest                        

THURSDAY INTERMEDIATES 





INTERMEDIATES

PRACTICE CHARTS NOW REQUIRED EVERY CLASS 







1. Review Scale of D one octave
2. Review: Trumpet Tune 
3. Review: HTPO- Happy Song- notes and rhythms. Careful counting: letter B to D 
4. Fandango: - NEW bars 21 to 36 Write in note names where needed
                                3/4 time- 1,2,3 -say "REST"  to help with correct timing. 


ADVANCED
five practice days per week
PRACTICE CHARTS NOW REQUIRED EVERY CLASS 


3. Mozart - Eine Kleine Nachtmusik: 
a)Use D scale to practice "RE-TAKE BOWING"  for opening bars.
b) Practice rhythm changes: violins: bar 19 to 20, viola/cello/bass: bar 25 to 26
c) Write in NOTE NAMES  and fingerings on your lower strings
d) watch out for c# or f# on your LOWER strings 
e) watch for altered notes eg # to natural, natural to flat etc. and 

f) Review: "spiccato bowing"- how to bounce the bow- use  for repeated eighth note sections
NEW: Special attention to legato smooth section from 11 to 17


4. Pachelbel's  CANON .

a) Learn well from bar 1 to 10.
b)Write in NOTE NAMES  and fingerings on your lower strings
c) tune  your sharps (cellos-extensions) on lower strings 

5. Deep River: FIND YOUR MELODY- STUDY IT! learn the notes, rhythms, bowings to play the tune smoothly, beautifully and with feeling (dynamics help)
