PARENT NOTES

             1. Music at theTowers-OUR VISION AND EXPECTATIONS FOR SUCCESS

Our goal at MATT is to guide your child into successful music training and the resulting sense of pride and achievement. We ask the lowest possible fees for this education, which provides not only musical education but also many proven side benefits for a successful future:
co-operation skills, self discipline, increased focus, respect for others.

Here are some important Parent tips for success in the program:

1) Check the weekly BLOG by Thursday evening to keep informed about MATT's activities and to review this week's homework. (Google Music at the Towers-go to BLOGspot)

2) Set up a practice routine of at least five (start with four for Beginners) parent-supervised sessions of 20 to 30 min

   3) Record homework on the practice chart provided and bring the chart to every class.

4) Ensure that you attend all Tuesday classes and give advance notice for absence. Leave message for Yogita- 905 497 2220
4.) Drop in on the Private lesson occasionally, to see how the teacher approaches the learning.
5) Be sure to follow the Absence Guideline for missed Private lessons.

PRACTICE CHARTS will be checked in all classes next week,
to help you organize your home review

Windshield wiper, Monkey crawl, coin on hand

Name your strings- top to bottom, bottom to top

Review: Playing notes on your strings
STEPS: 1.with your best bow grip, lift the bow over the strings,
                             2. touch middle of bow hair to one string,
                             3. let your arm weight "Drop down" onto string, hear a "crunch"
                             4. pull one short stroke down and then up again

TIPS for best sound:
 a) bow sits half way between bridge and fingerboard
 b) bow moves parallel to string,
 c) hair is flat on string -violin: lean wood away from nose,
                                    - cello and bass lean stick upwards
  d) right elbow and shoulder are relaxed

NEW: STRING CYCLE:

  • Start on your lowest string   (thickest) .
  •  Follow steps above for good sound. Pull 4 strokes close to the frog
  •  Then change your elbow level to move to the next highest string. Pull 4 strokes
  •  Repeat on next 2 strings-to arrive at the highest
